Rex Z498

  • Breed / Mix: German Shorthaired Pointer
  • Age: 9 Years
  • Service: Federal Agency

Rex is a large 73 lb German Shorthaired Pointer. Prior to his recent retirement from the Department of Homeland Security, TSA, K9 Rex’s home airport was Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Texas. Rex is an explosive detection K9 and has also provided EDC support at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). Rex was assigned to search vehicles entering the gate to the Tennessee Air National Guard in Nashville as well as supporting the Presidential Security teams by acting as a visual deterrent for visitors when Air Force One landed in Nashville for President Donald Trump. Rex provided EDC capabilities at Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, and the 2022 South-by-Southwest Festival in Austin. Rex was always eager to search the tunnels in the airport, sniff out passengers and their baggage in the checkpoint and gate areas, search pallets of cargo, and sniff out vehicles…making sure the traveling public were safe from the threat of hidden explosives. Rex was known for his happy demeanor and prancing “bougie” walk earning him the knick-name of “sexy-Rexy.” Rex will be greatly missed at the airport by both employees and travelers. Now Rex will have more time for his favorite activities of playing fetch and getting vigorous back scratches. Thank you Rex for your dedication and hard work.
