Bear

Bear is a 9-year-old GSD who served the citizens of Montgomery County, Maryland for four years. He was born in Slovakia in 2014 and retired from the Montgomery County Police Department in 2019. From the beginning Bear was an amazing partner to his handler, Deb Tupa, easily completing his four-month basic patrol school and, later, his two-month narcotics detector school. Bear had many apprehensions, to include arrests for burglary, felony domestic violence assault, and robbery. Bear also located numerous critical missing individuals during his career, saving the life of two little girls who had fled home in subzero temperatures and were wearing only pajamas. Bear attended many trainings throughout his short career, including a course in high-risk deployments in Erie, PA. Bear loves any and all food, ice cubes, and stealing food from his mom’s two teenage boys when they aren’t paying attention. In his free time enjoys sleeping in his mom’s bed on her pillow, long walks around the property, and keeping his younger brother, K9 Moose, in line.
