Reno

MWD Reno X414 is an 8 year old German Shephard who served 7 years with the U.S. Navy as a patrol and explosive detection canine. MWD Reno was bred in Germany and arrived at Lackland AFB in June of 2015 at the age of 16 months old. He was trained at Lackland AFB for approximately 11 months. In May of 2016 , MWD Reno was then assigned to Naval District Washington Headquarters, where he provided base security and anti-terrorism force protection postures for eight installations in the National Capital Region, including the U.S. Naval Academy Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Observatory. Stateside, MWD Reno performed numerous missions throughout his career providing explosive detection, physical security and visual deterrence for three U.S. Presidents, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, Diplomats and Heads of State, as well as Military Officials. He also participated in Baltimore Fleet Week, multiple National Night Out campaigns and a multitude of high-profile events at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. MWD Reno’s overseas deployments included U.S. Presidential Protection missions to Vietnam and Germany, where he performed explosive detection and physical security. Additionally, he deployed to Saudi Arabia and Qatar where also performed explosive detection and physical security missions in support of anti-terrorism measures. In April of 2022, MWD Reno was medically retired due to joint and neurological issues of the spine, hips and back legs. He is currently loving his newfound retired life with all the dog beds (and people beds), toys, treats, adventures and snuggles on the couch that he truly deserves! He loves playing and hanging out with his sisters and bogarting all the toys and attention. Reno is a sweet, gentle soul and we are so happy he’s part of our pack now!
