Callie

K-9 Callie is a retired police dog whose personality can be summed up in one word: intense. From the beginning of her training, she stood apart from most dogs. Her drive, focus, and determination were so powerful that she was asked to leave two training schools. Instead of giving up, I accepted the challenge and spent countless hours training her outside a formal program. In the process, we built an unbreakable bond. During her law enforcement career, Callie proved her tracking skills to be exceptional. While average tracking success rates are often around 10%, Callie consistently performed closer to 80%. Her ability to stay focused and push through difficult conditions made her an invaluable partner and highlighted her extraordinary work ethic. Callie has always approached life at full speed. Whether working or playing, she gives everything she has. She loves car rides and is happiest tagging along wherever her family goes. Because of her strong personality, she isn’t easily left with others. Most people find her difficult to handle, so she travels with her family whenever possible. She loves the water and never passes up a chance to splash, swim, or explore. Toys are another favorite, although they rarely survive for long. Callie has an impressive talent for destroying nearly any toy she’s given. Strangely, she usually loses interest unless her handler is nearby to join in. When Callie feels overlooked, she has a distinctive way of making her point. She’ll quietly raid a family member’s sock drawer, choose a sock, and carry it around like a prized possession. She never chews or damages it—she simply takes it hostage. The catch is that she won’t surrender her stolen treasure to anyone except her handler. Family members can negotiate, plead, and bargain all they want, but the sock stays with Callie until I retrieve it myself . Although her law enforcement career is over, retirement hasn’t slowed her down. She still carries the same drive, confidence, and stubborn determination that makes her unforgettable. Whether she’s riding shotgun, swimming, destroying another toy, or holding a family member’s sock for ransom, Callie remains every bit the remarkable K-9 she has always been.
