K-9 Amy, a purebred Dutch Shepherd born on November 14, 2015, is a dedicated public servant who spent years protecting the highest leaders of the United States. Combining an incredible work ethic with an elite sense of smell, Amy served as a vital shield against hidden dangers at home and abroad. Amy’s journey with the United States Secret Service began on February 6, 2017. To prepare for the high-stakes environment of executive protection, she underwent over five months of rigorous training to become a certified explosive detection canine. Once deployed, Amy became a familiar and reassuring presence around Washington, D.C. Her daily responsibilities included conducting meticulous security sweeps of packages, luggage, vehicles, and grounds across the White House complex and the Vice President’s residence. Amy’s duties frequently took her far beyond the nation’s capital. As a trusted member of the President and Vice President’s protective details, she was a seasoned traveler who loved taking trips to secure venues worldwide. Her missions spanned from domestic sweeps in Dallas, Texas, to international deployments in Hanoi, Vietnam, ensuring safety on a global scale. On August 26, 2022, Amy officially retired from the Secret Service due to injuries sustained during her time in service. Today, she is enjoying a well-deserved retirement. When she isn’t keeping the world safe, Amy loves playing with her collection of different Kong toys, going for long walks, and taking the time to happily smell nature.
