Ember

Ember is a Labrador Retriever and former explosives detection canine who has traded her working-dog career for a much more relaxed life filled with fetch, car rides, walks, and plenty of attention from her favorite humans. Born on November 29, 2023, Ember was trained at Gold Coast K-9 in Moorpark, California, before beginning her career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Special Enforcement Bureau’s Arson Explosives Unit. During her time as a working canine, Ember helped keep people safe at a variety of high-profile events, including concerts and sporting events at Staples Center in Los Angeles. While Ember took her job seriously, anyone who knows her knows that she has a very playful side. She is incredibly affectionate, loves attention from people, and has never met a human she didn’t want to be friends with. She also absolutely loves other dogs and is always ready to play, sometimes with a little more enthusiasm than her canine friends expect! At home, Ember loves spending time with her family, especially the kids, who keep her entertained and on her toes. Her favorite activities include going for walks, riding in the car, playing fetch, and finding ways to sneak upstairs and steal the kids’ stuffed animals. Her favorite toys include JW Crackle Heads Balls, KONG Extreme toys, and Chuckit! Ultra Balls. When it comes to treats, she is always happy to see Lucy’s Skipin’ Rounds or a Greenie. One of Ember’s funniest quirks is that she likes to “talk.” If she feels like she’s being ignored, she will make little grunting and growling noises to remind everyone that she is, in fact, still there and would appreciate some attention! After serving as an explosives detection canine, Ember is now enjoying retirement and embracing life as a beloved companion. These days, her most important jobs are keeping her humans company, entertaining the kids, supervising the household, and making sure no stuffed animal is left unattended. From protecting large crowds in Los Angeles to stealing stuffed animals at home, Ember has always had an important job to do. These days, she just gets to have a little more fun doing it.
