Alvin

  • Breed / Mix: German Shepherd
  • Age: 10 Years
  • Service: Federal Agency

I picked up EDC Alvin as a green dog(this meant he never had been paired with any handler and never passed a certification) in March of 2017. We spent 1 month at Vohne Liche kennels learning to become a team before heading to the Department of State testing facility. There we passed our certifications and headed overseas to Afghanistan where we worked as a Explosive Detection Team at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan. Over the course of the next three and a half years we would deploy 5 total times back to Afghanistan and work as a explosive detection team. We have traveled to 5 different countries together over his working years. In late 2019 the Department of State changed the program and Alvin was up for early retirement. I adopted EDC Alvin and he lived in Texas with my brother and his family. He loved hanging out with his kids and other dogs. Alvin in his retirement has been spoiled rotten. He likes to lounge on the couch or bed and spend time with his little sister Freyja. (Even though she is quite younger and drives him nuts always wanting to play). Alvins favorite thing to do is car rides. He loves to go absolutely anywhere with me and I try to take him with me as much as possible. We will jump in the car and head out to hike local trails or just go on long drives together.
