K-9 Aro was born in Netherlands on March 12, 2013. Aro was bought by the U.S. Border Patrol on November, 2014. He began his detection training for concealed humans and the odor of controlled substance on January, 2015 at Canine Center Front Royal in Virginia. On March, 2015, K-9 Aro was assigned to Border Patrol Agent (BPA), Kennett Chavez. On April 22, K-9 Aro and BPA Chavez were certified as a team. On April 27, K-9 Aro and his partner began their travel back to their assigned station at Alpine, Texas. During his time in Alpine, TX, K-9 Aro was responsible for over 100 seizures that ranged from personal use and a couple hundred pounds of different types of drugs. On November, 2016, K-9 Aro and BPA Chavez were transferred to El Centro, California. From November, 2016 until his retirement in June 3, 2022, K-9 Aro was responsible for the apprehension of over 2,000 subjects in the field and multiple methamphetamine and cocaine in El Centro Border Patrol Sector. K-9 Aro has been dealing with Renal Kidney Disease and has been on a prescription diet his whole life. Aro was rushed to the veterinary after showing signs of gastric torsion. An emergency Splenectomy was performed on Aro after a ruptured mass was discovered. Due to his health issues and age, he was retired from the Border Patrol and was given full responsibility to BPA Chavez.
