K9 Colt completed the K9 academy and hit the street February of 2017. K-9 Colt and I were assigned to the patrol division, but were also a proactive Unit mainly focused on narcotic investigations. K-9 Colt was also deployed numerous times with the Atlantic County SWAT team where he not only protected members of the SWAT team, he also located a large quantity of firearms, narcotic related currency, and narcotics. K-9 Colt also located numerous criminals during tracks. Not only did K-9 Colt locate criminals, he also located a nine year old autistic student that ran away from school at recent. The student took off into the woods, got turned around and a teacher had followed after the student. With the teacher only having partial radio communication, a track was started to locate not only the student, but also the teacher now too. After nearly 55 minutes of tracking, K-9 Colt located both the student and teacher in a heavy wooded area next to a stream. K-9 Colt also participated in USPCA Regional & National Narcotic Detection Trials where in 2017 K-9 Colt and (retired) Unit member K-9 Rocky combined scores; leaving them as the 2nd best K-9 team in the Country. K-9 Colt also competed in UPSCA Regional PD1’s where a certification was obtained every year. Working with K-9 Colt has brought us all the way to Albany, New York and as far south as Wildwood, NJ. During K-9 Colt’s down time he loves to hang out with our house dog (Ammo) who is a two year old golden retriever. He also watches guard of my two year old son to make sure he is never getting out of hand when I am not home. K-9 Colt has slowly transitioned to the new house security system!! Since retirement, K-9 Colt has received vanilla ice cream & milk bones from my wife on a daily basis. Although I was worried about the transition in the beginning, my wife is making the retired life very easy for K-9 Colt.
