Colt

K9 Colt is a purebred Belgian Malinois and was born December 11, 2019, in Poland. K9 Colt was sold and shipped overseas to Ventosa K9 in North Carolina, and this is where I first met and tested him as a single purpose Narcotic K9. K9 Colt exceeded all expectations during testing and was brought home to Henrico County and began Basic K9 school the beginning of 2021. K9 Colt and I certified as a team in May of 2021 and began his career. During K9 Colt’s short five-and-a-half-year career, he had over 350 utilizations. These utilizations included screening vehicles of all types: cars, trucks, buses, semis, trailers, even a moped. K9 Colt also screened luggage, packages, storage units, and rooms of various buildings and houses. K9 Colt worked for Henrico County; however also assisted several other neighboring jurisdictions and agencies. To list a few: Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover, VA State Police, New Kent, Amtrak PD, as well as joint operations directly targeting high value targets for DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), and HSI (Homeland Security Investigations). K9 Colt assisted with not only getting low level users and high value dealers off the streets but also helped locate many criminals who were wanted for other misdemeanor and felony charges. Many of K9 Colt’s utilizations resulted in finding narcotics such as Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Mushrooms, Marijuana, and various prescription pills. Along with the listed narcotics, hundreds of firearms were successfully taken off the streets in result of K9 Colt’s actions.
