Hunter

  • Breed / Mix: Flat Coated Retriever
  • Age: 16 Years
  • Service: Federal Agency

K9 Hunter is a flat coated retriever born in April 2009, in Slovakia. In 2011, he was transferred to the United States and purchased by the federal government where he would later attain his explosive detection certification in January 2012. Coming from Slovakia was not an easy transition, as he had to go from learning all Slovak and Russian to English, but he proved that was only a small obstacle to a dog of his learning capabilities.

Hunter went on to work as an explosive detection dog for six years and retired from federal government service in January 2018 at the age of eight. Daily, Hunter swept vehicles at the access points for different secure locations within the District of Columbia. He participated in many large-scale events to include two Presidential Inaugurations, multiple State of the Union Addresses, a Papal Visit and a host of other events. Though Hunter is retired, he enjoys spending time on long trail walks, short runs and playing with a tennis ball.
