Obelix

K9 Obelix began his 5 year career with the US Department of Homeland security in December of 2017 after being partnered with his mom, Dorothy. Obelix, also known as Obie, was stationed at Newark Liberty International airport with his handler. Over the span of his career, Obie has searched hundreds of thousands of aviation passengers, countless aricrafts, vehicles and cargo facilities. Obie was trained to detect over 20 different types of explosives and particitpated in local and national training events. Obie and his handler also had the unique opportunity of assisting in a National Operation to welcome thousands of Afghan refugees seeking asylum in the Country back in 2021. Obie is beloved by all he has come in contact with. Over the years at Newark airport, Obie has been deemed the “favorite K9” by many coworkers, managers, airline representatives and passengers. In his retirement, Obie has now developed a love for hiking and exploring the outdoors. His favorite treats are anything mom or dad will give him lol.
