Astra is an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois with a docked tail who served honorably in the U.S. Army from 2018 to 2026. She deployed to the Middle East and supported numerous high-profile VIP protectee missions across the United States with the Secret Service and Department of State, safeguarding the President, Vice President, and other dignitaries. Medically retired in February 2026 after an Addisonian Crisis, Astra was adopted by her longtime handler and is now thriving as a beloved family member. In retirement, this confident and playful girl loves sunbathing in the yard, chasing squirrels, and getting rowdy with her brother Nitro — a fellow retired MWD she deployed with (watch for her docked tail “wagging” with excitement). Her favorite spot is the couch for long naps. She adores squeaky rubber balls, Kong bones, and Cheeto puffs (in moderation, of course). She also enjoys staring at her handler during chores and once discovered the thrill of the trashcan (now safely moved!).
