K9 Theo was a uniquely large German Shorthaired Pointer from Germany who began his Explosive Detection Career for Salt Lake City Police Department in 2012. He was an active working K9 up until his retirement in January of 2021. He had an impeccable nose for his job of finding explosives. During his time off, he loved to use his nose to track down his human brother’s left over food. Theo had some amazing searches that gave him the opportunity to work for the Trump, Obama, Bush, & Clinton Presidential Administrations, as well as Utah’s Sundance Film Festival. He also served his local community by keeping them safe from threats. He was an amazing partner to me, but was also the best family member. In his downtime after a work day, he was very protective of my wife & our sons. He loved to cuddle them along with our family cat, Kujo. His favorite thing to do was play keep away with the first item he could grab. Theo wanted you to see he had an item and acknowledge him, but don’t take it from him. Although he was a bird dog and a breed that is supposed to enjoy water, he hated baths, puddles, & rain storms. Theo had a short retirement, but was able to spend more time with my wife and our sons. He was finally able to go camping, sleep all hours, play with his younger pointer brother, Copper, and scavenge for more scraps. He was finally able to relax, enjoy family life and be pampered like he deserved. Theo passed away unexpectedly August 19, 2021 due to an aggressive cancer that, unfortunately, most explosive K9s are exposed to. My family and I are so thankful he was a part of our lives for almost 10 years. Theo wasn’t just a dog; he was my partner, our best friend, and a child that we loved dearly. Theo, you are one of kind- an oversized, independent, food driven, cuddly German Shorthair that can never be replaced or forgotten. We love you & miss you.
