Nero

K9 Nero is a German Shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic on April 20, 2007. He was certified in explosive detection and partnered with Police Officer Porigow from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department. Officer Porigow and Nero were responsible for safeguarding Newark, JFK and LaGuardia airports, the PATH train system, Holland and Lincoln tunnels, George Washington and Staten Island bridges, Port Newark ship and cargo terminals, the Port Authority Bus Terminal and the World Trade Center. Nero was trained to detect a wide variety of explosives and responds to calls for unattended bags and vehicles, bomb threats, Presidential movements and performs motorcade sweeps for federal officials and visiting foreign dignitaries. Officer Porigow and Nero provided educational demonstrations at schools and Police departments in New York and New Jersey.

 

When not at work, K9 Nero lives at home with Officer Porigow and his family where he enjoys playing catch with his favorite ball, running and snacking on dog treats.
